SKYWARS is a fighting game created by 16bitplay Games based on the SkyWars game mode in the Hypixel Minecraft server.
Gameplay[]
Players spawn on different islands when the round begins. Everyone must kill each other before the timer ends. The last player alive wins the round. Players that are alive when the timer ends also win the round. Everyone spawns with a bow, sword, pickaxe, and blocks.
Blocks can be used mainly for bridges, barricades, and other advantages by the player. More blocks can be obtained by mining them with your pickaxe.
Players can also mine ores that are underground in each island. They can be mined for coins which can be used in the shop. Ores on your island have different values and take a certain amount of hits before mined. A pickaxe is required to mine them. An island in the middle has more rare ores.
A shop in the lobby is where players can purchase armor, weapons, blocks, and power ups.
History[]
It was first released around 2015 (it was moved to the 16bitplay games group on June 10, 2017), being owned by bloxxeer8521. It wasn't so popular until 2016, when YouTubers such as Denis began uploading on it, along with the rapid popularity of Roblox that came in 2016.
During 2017, one of the 2 devs, bloxxeer8521, got terminated from roblox. There is little info as to why they were terminated. 0_0 moved it to 16bitplay Games, and continued the game on his own.
It received its first winter and halloween updates in late 2017.
Around mid 2018, SKYWARS reached 100 million visits, updating the title for a while. On the Halloween Update of 2018, the first ever exclusive(s) were released, replacing 2x Coins and 3x Coins. You can still use 2x Coins and 3x Coins, as long as you bought it before it was taken offsale. The Winter Update of 2018 also included new exclusives.
After that, SKYWARS began to decline. On February 16, 2020, 0_0 announced on his Twitter that he would stop doing live streams. He said it would help with development on SKYWARS. A month later, the real-world pandemic happened, which boosted SKYWARS popularity again.
SKYWARS didn't really receive any new updates after 2020, and was mainly just new exclusives, which did the same damage and protection.
SKYWARS's last update was on May 29, 2023. It included 2x Coins week and a new map.
Trivia
- In recent years, many skywars players became 'toxic', and constantly saying 'ez' and 'L' in the chat. They also complain about people using armour, potions or mining people. Many quit due to these players playing the game.
- 3x COINS and 2x COINS use to exist, but was put offsale in 2018, being replaced by the exclusive armours and packs. Anyone who bought them before it went offsale keeps it, and still works if you own it.
