Contamination is a story-based zombie horror game created by CoderQwerty (formerly qwerty1806), in which players must fight their way out of a zombie-infested facility. The zombies in the game are based on the zombies in the Left 4 Dead series.
It was closed and later re-opened as defunct as a result of the release of Experimental Mode and its removal. CoderQwerty later set the game uncopylocked and updated the game's description in response to this with two places being linked, the former being Contamination Legacy which is the fixed version of the game, and the latter being Infection which is said that players may be interested in.
Contamination Rewritten[]
There is a game by Sp00ked1 called Contamination Rewritten . This is a fixed version of Contamination which fixed underlying issues and bugs that were present in Contamination. There is differences between Contamination and Contamination Rewritten such as the guns. According to the News UI in the game it will be receiving updates.
Gameplay[]
Players spawn in the main lobby that includes a shop as well. When a new round begins, players are teleported into a hallway. They must navigate through the facility without dying to win the game.
The overwhelming damage zombies can deal and how massive their hordes can be, as well as the fact that the rooms are enclosed, narrow and full of hazards, makes up for its extremely challenging difficulty.
History[]
It was an extremely popular game, and was well known throughout the community in early 2010s.
The game itself is extremely well scripted for its time. The comments generally give it the game positive feedback which can no longer be found after the removal of the commentary. The game has been copied by several different users who try to take credit for it and profit from it themselves.
It was uncopylocked by the creator after he reached to an unknown amount of visits. The game was later stolen in 2011 by Jaredvaldez4 via exploiting and named it "Dead or Alive?", even making his own VIP T-shirts for the game. This event led to outrage throughout the Roblox community, and sympathy for CoderQwerty. Forums often exploded with threads discussing about the incident.
On July 26, 2018, the game became uncopylocked because of an update that has forced FilteringEnabled which subsequently caused the game to break. Later, on August 19, 2018, the game's description was updated which advertised a fixed version of Contamination known as Contamination Legacy after Roblox updates broke the scripts. The game's description also had a link to another game called INFECTION
Zombies[]
Zombies are the main enemies of Contamination and each of them weld different abilities. They are based off Valve's Left 4 Dead 2 special infected.
Zombie[]
- Zombies also known as basic infected in the game, are the most commonly faced enemy in the game. They deal extreme amounts of damage to players, killing them within seconds. Their strength mostly lies in their tendency to attack in groups, which can become more dangerous then most special infected.
- Appears in: All stages
Boomer[]
- The Boomer is a bloated dusty red colored special infected that explodes upon physical contact with a player. At a distance the Boomer isn't much of a threat, and is very slow.
- Appears in: First stage, TV stage, Dark Room
Hunter[]
- Hunters have the lowest amount of health of any infected, ticking at 80 HP. However, they are the most agile zombie out of all. They can kill a survivor in just under a second and overwhelm an entire group if given the chance. Most hunters will only spawn inside air vents and do not collaborate in swarms, however one may.
- Appears in: Hallway, Air vents
Smoker[]
- The Smoker more of an irritation than a threat, unless you are on a tight ledge. They run faster than you and will trip you with their tongue or annoy you with it. Smokers can be identified with their lizard-like monstrous head or a normal zombie with big bulges and a tongue hanging out.
- Appears in: Acid Pool
Charger[]
- One Charger can easily take out a small group if it is given the chance, its large right can make devastating blows killing you instantly if it gets near you. Their attack is similar to the Hunter, expect the Charger has a higher chance of reaching you since it takes more of a pounding.
- Appears in: Hallway
Witch[]
- The Witch is one of the most deadly types of zombie, although you can easily sneak past her, but only if you do not fire a bullet at her. If a bullet hits her then she will charge into the group at a massive speed and most definitely kill everyone in sight. To kill a charging witch you need over 100 studs of ground, which is not available in the GRI's facility.
- Appears in: Room with ladder
Jockey[]
- One of the deadliest zombies due to how fast they are and due to them being broken by Roblox Updates. If a Jockey rides a player there is no way to save the player and it is a guaranteed death.
- Appears in: TV Room, Burning Room
Spitter[]
- Spitters are easy to defeat at range. They used to be able to spit corrosive acid however this has been broken by Roblox Updates.
- Appears in: Hallway, TV Room
Tank[]
- Despite its sheer size, the Tank is one of the easiest zombies to kill due to how slow their speed is. Simply running away from them while shooting the Tank several times will easily lead to the Tank's death eventually.
- Appears in: Final Stage
Tools[]
Tools are essential for players to progress the game. There are different types of tools and some may not be used for fighting but instead for support.
Ranged weapons[]
These weapons are used for killing zombies at ranges.
Melee weapons[]
These weapons are used for killing zombies at close quarters.
Medkits[]
Medkits are used to heal players. Smaller medkits have higher fire rate.
name | image | description |
---|---|---|
Large Medkit | A high heal rate with a slow fire rate. | |
Medium Medkit | An average heal rate with an average fire rate. | |
Small Medkit | A small heal rate with a fast fire rate. |
Storyline[]
In the closet after a failed test in a facility, an unknown individual communicates to the players through the Public Address system, where he tells the survivors what to do and warns them about enemies. The survivors stumble upon a horde of zombies, where they will wipe them out and move on to the next room.
The next stage is a long hallway leading to a surface elevator. The narrator orders them to head towards the elevator, but warns them that a hunter may be nearby. A hunter pounces out of an air duct and tries to kill the group. Suddenly, the elevator explodes and the ceiling is about to cave in on the group. The humans safely make it out alive and head towards the next objective: The toxic pool.
The narrator advises the players to make their way to the bridge over the toxic pool (where the substance is made) and tells them to take the ladder. As the players cross over a bridge, a smoker appears and tries to grab them. They kill the smoker and the bridge then collapses and falls in the toxic pool. Through the air vents, a hunter appears from the end but easily kill it. After dropping into a long hallway, zombies manage to locate the narrator and gunshots can be heard through the PA system. The Acid breaks through the walls and the players must get to the door quickly or else the door will close on them, leaving no survivors behind.
The humans will then make there way in a hallway eliminating a Hunter on the way. They head towards an empty conference room in which the projector turns on and displays a short film of how to reverse the mutation by installing antibody and ask permission for the mayor to release it into the main sewer system along with a penalty of $1,000,000. They murder a swarm of zombies and take an elevator. Just then the substance is released into the sewer supply along infecting civilians 200 miles across, setting the story for Outbreak: Survivors. The elevator crashes towards the ground and then the humans must take out a horde of zombies. They will then take another vent while trying their best not to disturb the witch.
The humans would then kill more zombies and make it to the final stage. A giant zombie breaks the wall and tries to murder them. The humans fight hard and eventually slay the giant zombie. The game ends when the remaining alive head towards light.
Criticism []
While the place is considered by countless amount of users to be one of the greatest classics in Roblox History, it is often criticized by majority of its playerbase for being significantly difficult mostly to players who are quite inexperienced in the game. It's criticized by often being played by new users who often have little to no idea of what to do in the game. It should also be noted that due to lack of updates the game is easy to exploit.
Griefing[]
One of the most common aspects that people tend to often criticize the game about is griefing. There are a lot of ways to grief or troll in this game. Some of the griefers are actually new players who have little knowledge on what to do in the game thus making them do things which is unbeneficial to the rest of the players. One of most common ways to grief in this game is by attracting zombies into your team and getting killed, blocking the ladder in the way to the toxic pool, or by opening fire at the witch which will get a significant amount of your team killed unless you somehow manage to eliminate the witch first.
Exploiting[]
Another way that the game is ruined is by exploiting. Due to the lack of worthwhile updates the game has become extremely easy to exploit. One of the most common ways of exploiting here is by changing the amount of wins a player has or by deleting the walls.
Human Strategies[]
As a human you have an unbalanced advantage over the Zombie team due to you having additional health, mobility and damage. However, it only takes a few seconds for you to get killed (Unless you spawn with a melee weapon) Because of this you should always be extremely cautious and know when to advance. It's advised you stay at the back of your team to increase your chances of survival. It should also be noted that the Sterling is the most powerful weapon in the game and a skilled and experienced Sterling user can easily lead a team to an easy victory.
Zombie Strategies[]
When a player dies he is actually able to respawn in the form of an undead zombie in one of the cutscenes. If you are to die in the beginning of the game you will be able to respawn as the form of a zombie three times. (Cinema scene, Hallway scene, Ending scene. As a zombie, it doesn't take that much time to kill a human, as touching them for only even a second is enough to get them killed. However, due to the geography of the map you are most likely to get wiped out before you get the chance. Because of how vulnerable the regular zombie is it's extremely difficult to fight very aggressively, due to the zombie's aspects it's heavily recommended to fight passively.
An effective way to cost the lives of many humans is to hide and then attack when the humans are very near. One of the ways were you can apply this strategy is in the cinema scene, as soon as the video stops and your vision is restored. Make your way to the hallway connected to the elevator. Make sure you are in a third version view so you may see the entranceway without being spotted. As soon as you're near enough, surprise the enemy and touch them which will result in most if not all of the human team dying.

Trivia[]
This section is a trivia section. Please relocate any relevant information into other sections of the article.
- Contamination was one of the first places in Roblox to have rounds in gameplay, instead of just respawning after dying (similar to obbys ) or having a story-styled gameplay (similar to adventure games).
- The zombies that are in this game are also the same types of zombies from the Left 4 Dead series. Many other zombie/horror games use the same zombies from the series such as DATINE's Reason 4 Life series.
- The Tank boss has been through 3 changes. From 2009 to 2013, it used to be blue and had a panther head. Then from 2013, it was a gray, muscular zombie with a white coat. At 2014, it shrunk and lost the coat.
- The 2014 Tank also lost an animation.
- There is a glitch where when you're stacked on a player in a small room or hallway, you might pop out of the roof and roam around on top of the map freely.
- The Boomer's Torso is a retextured Penguin Torso from the Penguin package.
- Back then, you could purchase a Desert Eagle, Extra armor, Luger and a flamethrower using either TIX or ROBUX. These are no longer available to be purchased, the only power up that can still be purchased is the Contamination Benefits which link is in the description of the place and is available to be purchased for 50 Robux. The benefits will only apply if you're wearing the shirt, the benefits are: Sterling upon spawn, additional health and additional walkspeed.
- If you spawn with a melee weapon, you will have 650 healthpoints. Making you more difficult to kill. It will also not take a few seconds to kill you.
- Back then weapons had ammunition which took four seconds to reload. This was removed most likely because it wouldn't help the player during a bad situation.
- Currently, the jockey is glitched and it will be impossible to remove once it is on you.
- Once you have beat the entire game once, you are given a cake which shall heal 5 health points per bite. According to its description it's a piece cut of from the tank.
