Tower Battles is a tower defense game created by Planet3arth and fully released on August 12th, 2017.

Gameplay[]

Tower Battles is a tower defense game in which the player places down towers to defend against zombies trying to reach the end of the path. Players can play on versus mode, where the objective is to outlast the opponent(s) and they can send zombies against the opposing team, or survival, where players try to survive as long as possible. In both modes, there are a total of 40 waves and each team gets 100 health. Beating all 40 waves will reward the player with a triumph. However, triumphing in versus is impossible as of July 22, 2020 as Endbringers (slow zombies with 125k health) will respawn infinitely until a team loses.

Towers[]

Towers are NPCs that damage zombies or support the player/towers in alternative ways. All players start with a single-target low-damage tower, the Scout, and can purchase more towers using credits won through matches or bought with Robux. Players at default have four tower slots, but an additional one can be purchased for 2000 credits after obtaining 50 versus wins (5th tower slot removed at an unknown date, please update this page).

Towers can be placed and upgrade throughout the match. Differing tower types, such as Phaser-Tick, Income, Single-Target, Track, and AoE can all be utilized to the player's advantage to take down incoming enemies. Income-based towers, such as the Farm and Tweeter, award cash per round survived, and typically do very low-and sometimes even zero-damage.

Zombies[]

Zombies are the main enemy of the game. A zombie that walks through the end gate will subtract from the player's team the number of health it has left (for example, if a Boss1 passes the end gate, and the base has 100 hp left, along with the Boss1 having 50 health, the base health would be subtracted by 50). Zombies are of different health and speed, with late-game zombies being generally faster and stronger. In addition, some zombies are able to attack a team's towers or spawn other zombies. In versus mode, players can pay cash to send the opposing team certain zombies.

Maps[]

Maps of different lengths are available for voting after joining a match. If none of the three maps on the voting screen are satisfactory, players can vote to veto the maps and get another three. Because different maps have different lengths and thus different difficulties, many players challenge themselves by trying to triumph on shorter maps or play in longer maps to win easily.

Vetoing a map in Versus will require both players, and after one veto, they cannot do so anymore and must select from their current map pool. As of November 2023, Borderlands has been removed from the Versus map rotation.

Events[]

Events are special modes unlocked during a specific time, usually to celebrate a holiday such as Halloween or Christmas. Event game modes have 10-15 waves featuring special event-themed zombies and award players with a greater amount of starting cash. Players who beat the event will be awarded with an event tower that is permanently kept in the user's inventory, after the event ends the event tower will become unobtainable. As of October 28th, 2023, this claim has been disputed. Hallowboomer and Graveyard, two towers from previous Halloween events, have become temporarily available with currency obtained upon either event completion or loss.

Trivia[]

This section is a trivia section. Please relocate any relevant information into other sections of the article.

  • Planet3arth has went on record stating that the Commando Tower is based on the Super Monkey from the Bloons Tower Defense series.
  • Tower Battles may be based on the Bloons franchise, a very popular series of tower defense games with similar gameplay mechanics.
  • In versus, if you beat Wave 40, instead of winning, you go to Wave: The End instead. This wave is impossible to beat, as Endbringers with 125k health spawn infinitely in a group of 5. The only thing to do is to outlast your opponent.
  • Alt farming in versus mode (1v1'ing your alternative account in versus and letting you win to get 125 credits) was a way to get quick credits. However, it has been confirmed that alt farming is illegal and bannable. To counter alt farming, technicals were added. Technicals happen if one team loses before wave 7, or places no towers. The winning team will only be awarded with 25 credits and no wins if a technical happens while the losing team gets 5 credits.
  • When defeating the Void on Wave 40 in survival mode, there is a 0.1% chance that a secret wave appears, called Wave 0000000. This wave has numerous special enemies only encountered in it, which expand upon a slight amount of the game's lore.
  • Although the Tower Battles place was created on January 28th, 2011, the actual game is an override of Planet3arth's starting place, and was released on August 12th, 2017.
  • Endbringers, without server lag, could possibly be infinitely defended prior to the removal of Borderlands with a 4-player "Call-to-Arms" ability chain, alongside 24 Golden Commandos (rewarded upon the player reaching 250 versus wins and 8,500 credits) and 32 railgunners. However, Tower Battles is poorly optimized, thus making this claim disputable.
  • Prior to the July 22nd, 2020 "Mega Update," towers did not have AnimationController animations.
  • Tower Battles was the First Major Tower Defense game on Roblox and the backbone for the current popularity of the genre in the platform.
