Contests were released in mid 2005 and ended in late 2009. They are competitions that users enter to compete for prizes. Contests continued on in early 2010 with a slightly different format, but were discontinued in early 2012. In 2017, 5 years after the last contest, ROBLOX made a new contest called the Voltron Robot Building Contest. The original contests began in mid 2005 (as seen on the Wayback machine) and do not happen very much at all now. The original contests would be put on Roblox's Blog pages. The host was one of the people from the staff. Their prizes were also hard to get such as video contests.
The first contest started on June 17th 2005, it was named "Fend off the bots!", in which you have to build something to stop robots from catching you.
More contests continued on over the months, such as Steer the Spheres (#1 and #2) and Balance.
To enter, you had to click the Enter Contest button. A window will pop up saying if you want to use a certain place, or make a new place, which only Builders Club members could do. After you picked a choice, it will say whether you'd want to have the starter template, or if you want to keep your place the same way. Your place will be entered.
After you've entered, you can see your place's ranking and score. If your score is high enough, you will be able to earn a prize. On the first page you go on when you click Contests, you can see the Highest Rated Places and the Most Accurate Voters. Next to those, you can see New and Cool places. Under that, you can see the prizes, and information on them. If you click on them, it will go to the page it is on in the Hats in the Catalog.
On the prizes page, it shows the prizes. It will have prizes for Highest Rated Places, and sometimes prizes for Most Accurate Voters.
The Leaders page shows the Highest Rated Places, and shows the places instead of the creator. Below that shows the Most Accurate Voters.
Contests are eventually fun. However, ROBLOX removed the feature in an unknown time and date at 2012. This caused users to get riots of bringing contests back. Another kind of criticism are people criticizing ROBLOX for supporting other kind of companies/products and make a place out of it to win rewards. People also criticized contests when users win with a place that has nothing to do with the theme.
