Dominus Mesh

Hooded Valk, the original Dominus mesh.

The Dominus (plural: Domini)[1][2] series consists of the most expensive and coveted hats ever known to the Roblox marketplace, even more so than the Domino Crown series, Federation series and the Sparkle Time Fedoras. It and the Kleos series were originally conceptualized by Shedletsky (known as Telamon at the time), and there is also a series of headphones with designs from some Domini, known as the Musica Dominators.

Traditionally, 26 copies of a limited unique Dominus would be sold for upwards of 10,000 Robux. After the release of the third edition, non-limited Domini and gifts containing them were introduced with the aim of being available to many more users.

Owning a Dominus usually signifies that the player is quite wealthy in terms of Robux, and also inspires envy due to their rarity, prices and general aesthetic. They are heavily desired by many players and are commonly worn as a status symbol by users such as Stickmasterluke.

As of August 25, 2023, there are 16 Domini in the catalog as well as various other accessories inspired and/or derived from them. Only 10 of the 16 Domini (which were all either purchasable for Robux or came out of purchasable gifts) are limited, while the rest are offsale.

Etymology[]

'Dominus' is a Latin term which can be used to refer to someone along the lines of a 'master' or 'owner'. It has been used throughout various historical periods to refer to people in power, and is also where the term dominate originates from.[3]

History[]

As the first item in the series, Dominus Empyreus (then the Hooded_Valkyrie)[4] was released on January 24, 2010, for 13,337 Robux.

Until 2017, Roblox released 1–2 purchasable Domini a year, with the exception of 2019 as the Dominus Formidulosus was released for Halloween that year.

Dominus Azurelight and Desperationis, which released six minutes apart from each other on August 25, 2023, were revealed to be the first Domini to use particle effects, excluding testing and/or prototype Domini.

  • Each Dominus (Except for Deadly Dark Dominus, Dominus Azurelight, and Dominus Claves) have a Latin description. These descriptions translate into:
    • I came, I saw, I frightened. [Formidulosus]
    • I came, I saw, I conquered. [Praefectus]
    • You came, you saw, you conquered. And spoils for the winner! [Venari]
    • Either win or die. [Frigidus]
    • From sea to sea. [Rex]
    • Do not take as gold everything that shines like gold. [Aureus]
    • Whatever is said in Latin sounds profound... [Empyreus]
    • Death is the limit. [Vespertilio]
    • As you sow, so shall you reap. [Messor]
    • Seize the night! [Astra]
    • So the glory of the world… [Infernus]
    • Farewell. [Pittacium]
    • All death equals acts, not words. [Desperationis]
  • Dominus Azurelight is the first dominus to have used an official Roblox face in its texture, this being the Skeptic face.
  • Dominus Desperationis' name is a half-jokey reference to the desperation that inevitably ensues in the Roblox community as newer Domini take a long time to come out, for example, Dominus Formidulosus came out in the year of 2019, whereas Dominus Azurelight and Desperationis came out in 2023.
  • Dominus Pittacium's description, "Farewell.", is a reference to the Roblox currency Tix being discontinued, as the Pittacium is Tix-themed.
  • The Deadly Dark Dominus is the only item in the Domini series to not start with "Dominus", excluding Domini-derived accessories and gifts.
