Want to ask me something or just talk? Go right ahead!

Note: I do archive messages after a while if they haven’t had a response within a certain timeframe, although it also depends on the type of post. If you’ve left a message and still wanted to continue the conversation after I’ve closed it, feel free to send another one.

I am also not a part of this Wiki’s staff (even though it may seem as if I am), so if you want to make a complaint about a user/page or other matters that can only be resolved by staff, direct it to someone like Anzu-TLK instead.

  • Hey, have you considered applying for a content moderation position? We are currently seeking for more capable persons to brought aboard and a few of us on staff think you'd be a great addition.

Although, I have heard on the grapevine that you may be a bit opposed to the idea. Well, not sure if my message would dwell all the objections you may have, but just wanted to let you know that an offer's open for a hearty nomination.

Let me state this though: We are merely a team of volunteers. We are not obliged to commit any more time to the wiki than we care to and can contribute to it in any way we wish to– some of us focus work on articles and community, some of us (like me) focus on wiki maintenance and preventative measures. There is no compulsory obligation or duty owed to the wiki by becoming staff.

    • Well, uh, to tell to you the truth I have been considering it more lately and I’ve also had some prior experience being a Content Moderator on the Mining Simulator wiki, but still unsure. There is a lot of stuff I’d like to do in order to improve this wiki, yet it feels sufficient to just maintain pages for the time being.

That being said, I’ll need a few more weeks in order to consolidate my choice and get back to you.

    • Of course, take your time. There is no rush, nor any obligation to accept.

But to throw Anzu under the bus, he is the one to request that someone go and beg you. :P

  • Hello, Anzu-TLK keeps making group pages into community pages.

    • No idea why you're telling Du Poisson this. I'm putting them into the community namespace, as that is where they go. There isn't a group namespace atm and in terms of page organisation (games) they serve the same purpose as users.

Already asked you to not put them into the mainspace, do not put them back.

    • Yeah, I'm not a staff member. Can't remember who, but a while back I saw a local admin moving group pages from Community to the mainspace and assumed it would keep on being applied. I do personally think they'd fit better in the Community space, though.

    • Articles about groups were originally supposed to go in the main namespace actually. We had fewer articles about groups when the custom namespaces were added. The Class and Catalog namespaces do not support subpages; the Community namespace does, for places. Groups could not have group places, except though an ancient feature that wasn't supported anymore and that nobody was using. So it would make more sense to have group pages in the Community namespace now.

Still, namespaces are about types of content, not about subjects. We already have Category:Community, which does include Category:Groups and Category:Players as subcategories. We don't need a second system for categorizing articles by subject.

It's not clear to me right now that my original reasoning for moving articles about players and places to a separate namespace was right. I thought they were a different type of content from other articles, but now I don't. While I do consider catalog pages and (especially) class pages a different type.

(I also thought tutorials belonged in the main namespace in 2013, and I don't anymore. But we also have a Tutorial namespace now.)

If anything I would remove the Community namespace and move all pages back. I don't necessarily suggest doing that, but since I'd nearly consider it a good idea I certainly don't think we should add more pages to the Community namespace. I think we should leave group pages in the main namespace.

There are two other issues. The first is that the group infobox template does not categorize group pages if they are anywhere other than the main namespace. So right now we have many group pages that are not categorized at all because they were moved to the Community namespace. The second is that Wikia does not support custom content namespaces correctly because most wikis don't have them and some things that should work for all content namespaces only work for the main namespace. I don't remember what the problems were and it seems both the search and the wiki activity work with our custom namespaces, so maybe the problems were fixed. Or maybe I'm misremembering and the problems weren't about search or the wiki activity page. The JoTS might know more about this.

  • You can skip the personal comments in the Edit Summary for the vandalism you and I are fixing. This person is doing it deliberately to see if they can get people upset. Just stick to matter-of-fact reasons like "reverting vandalism" and that will help reduce the amount of attention they are trying to get.

  • Thanks for undoing a lot of the recent vandalism! I think I got the rest taken care of (and those images removed from the history).
