In order to enforce place-specific rules, administrate a place, or simply have fun, some place owners give to themselves and, sometimes, other players they choose, certain features that normal users of a place do not have access to, and that allow them to control the place.
- Main article: command script
A command script is a script allowing certain users to perform certain actions in a game by using commands which are usually given through the chat or through a GUI text box. The most popular and known command script, despite being quite old, is Person299's admin command script.
Usually, command scripts will accept commands, some of which will also accept arguments, which will be separated from each others and from the command using a separator character (the most commons are the space and the '/' characters). Some command scripts will also require commands to be prefixed by a symbol like the exclamation mark to distinguish commands from normal chat (if the command script uses the chat to listen for commands, that is).
With the arrival of GUIs, many users have created administrative tools that use an interface instead of plain text commands, like command scripts. Many administrative tools that act like command scripts can, in fact, can be used either through plain text commands or with an interactive interface (e.g. Quenty's GUI admin commands).
