Egg Hunt 2017: The Lost Eggs was the eighth Egg Hunt event that started on April 4, 2017, and ended on April 24. In the years past, Roblox hosted Egg Drops in 2008 and 2010, the first Roblox Egg Hunt to be held in one place was the 2012 hunt, and the first Roblox Egg Hunt to be held in a game universe was the 2014 hunt. For this egg hunt, players will try to find eggs across different worlds. The players received a badge when an egg is found and the egg corresponding to the badge was also obtained as a wearable hat, however the event itself has ended so players will not be awarded any hats.

This Egg Hunt was sponsored by McDonald's Happy Meal. Unlike most of the other sponsored events, there was no related item, this was also the very first sponsor of a part of the Egg Hunt series and one of the first few events to receive positive feedback for a sponsored event.

Elite Builders of Robloxia

About the game[]

The game was made by Elite Builders of Robloxia, a group owned by Ravenshield. The game features a few worlds, most of which use an egg-styled teleporter to access:

  • Stratosphere Outpost - The starting location. Set in the Earth's layer of atmosphere, the floating islands of this world have a steampunk-like theme.
    • 5 eggs can be obtained here.
  • World of Tomorrow - Set in the future, this world contains a large amount of technological advances. This location features a big metal tower, a large telescope and a rocket station. Additionally, most plants are replaced with mushrooms of different sizes, with most of the smaller ones glowing brightly.
    • 7 eggs can be obtained here.
  • Northern Antarctica - A frozen world. Supposedly set in the north Antarctic, it has a frozen lake, several ski lodges and a destroyed ship that holds the teleporter.
    • 6 eggs can be obtained here.
  • Arctic Battlegrounds - The only PvP map in the game. Set near Northern Antarctica, two teams - red and blue - pelt each other with snowballs.
    • A physical teleporter is not present here - instead a new GUI button teleports players back to the Stratosphere Outpost.
    • 1 egg can be obtained here.
  • The Timeless Desert - A desert world, mainly based around Ancient Egypt. It mainly has several temples located in various places, including a large pyramid.
    • 7 eggs can be obtained here.
  • Mount Ignis - A volcanic world, with instant kill lava found almost everywhere. A town named Pompeii is present too, devastated in a similar way to its namesake.
    • 7 eggs can be obtained here.
  • Abyssal Plain - An underwater world, with Atlantis and Bermuda-like themes. Most of the map requires use of a limited oxygen supply, which can be regenerated with air bubbles.
    • 7 eggs can be obtained here.
  • Shrine of the Eggs - The final location. This map mainly consists of an egg-shaped shrine with a large tree in the middle.
    • This map is only accessible from under the hatch at Stratosphere Outpost, which requires at least 40 eggs to open.
    • 1 egg can be obtained here.
  • Stratosphere Settlement - A bonus location. A darker, spookier version of the original Stratosphere Settlement, it requires exploration and problem-solving to unlock its teleporter.
    • No information will be revealed as to how to get here.
    • 1 egg can be obtained here.

Top of the World Egg
Top of the World
This egg is found on the very tip of a tower located in a corner of the map (north-east) found at the very top of it. In order for players to obtain it, they simply had to touch it.
Lost in Transit Egg
Lost in Transit Egg
This egg is obtainable by using the aircraft on the front side of the map to steer it through a series of rings. Once the player flies through the final goal ring (a ring with one small ring enclosed in it), the egg will be awarded. Players must also keep track of time, if the time runs out they will no longer be able to get the egg. Each ring they hit gives about 3–4 seconds.
Humpty Dumpty
Humpty Dumpty
This egg is obtainable by fully jumping off the tower in the map (if the player lands on one of the tower's roofs, the player cannot receive the egg), then landing on the ground.

Note: This egg is only available while the Humpty Dumpty poem is visible inside the tower.

The Eggteen-Twelve Overture
The Eggteen-Twelve Overture Egg

20:25, March 21, 2018 (UTC) - An edit was made to this egg as users complained that you had to talk to the "golden robot" on the very minute required, and the egg was changed to be available to obtain at any time after those 7.5 hours.

Faster than Light Egg
Faster Than Light Egg Hat
This egg is obtainable by activating three switches scattered across the map (by the telescope, in the launch pad and past EGG9000's cave). Once each switch is activated, the egg will spawn by the teleporter. The player can then simply touch the egg to obtain it.

Lumineggscence A quick way to determine if an egg is fake is to check and see if it is moving. If it's moving, it's definitely a lure. If it isn't moving, then it may be real. However, that is not a guarantee - there are some fake eggs that do not move. In that case, check to see if there is an anglerfish located near the egg. The model is nearly invisible and very difficult to spot, especially from above. Below are pictures of a fake egg with the anglerfish circled.

Interview[]

The following interview was between Thundermaker300 and DieSoft on Error: Page "User blog:RBLXDeveloperInterviews/DieSoft: Egg Hunt 2017" does not exist., as part of the Developer Connections Project.

What was it like developing Egg Hunt 2017?
Working on the Egg Hunt 2017 event was a lot of fun but at the same time, it was also extremely stressful. If I remember it correctly we were meant to have more than fifty eggs but I cannot remember an exact number. Although Roblox did not approve that request and had us lower it down to forty-three eggs. In hindsight, we agree that their decision was the most realistic one as making unique gameplay for forty-three eggs alone was an immense task to take on for just an eight-man team. Every week we would have meetings with a Senior Games Producer from Roblox who made sure that we didn't miss any deadlines as well as to update us on any upcoming issues that was relevant to our project.
What challenges did you have to overcome while developing? What was the most challenging?
Development went relatively smoothly the entire process through. We had some bumps along the way but for the most part, we stuck together and pushed through as a team. But making an event is so much more than just the development process. I won't go too in-depth with this as it does tie into a lot of private things, but time management was definitely the biggest villain in all of this. As all our members were adults with jobs, relationships and what else adults do. We had to squeeze in a very large project into our already pretty busy lives and ensure that we met the deadlines which were more difficult than expected.
What did you enjoy most while developing Egg Hunt 2017?
The creative freedom. Something that I am incredibly proud of my team about is their ability to quickly come up with unique and funny ideas on the spot. We would joke about various things which would inadvertently trigger someone's imagination and led to something new being added to the game.
What was it like to develop a game that was featured in an official Roblox event?
Working on an official event game is quite different from working on regular games mainly because no matter what the game ends up being, it will still have a massive player attraction. This allows event game developers to really explore and mess around with ideas that might not normally end up being used. The Moana event we did prior to the Egg Hunt is a great example of this as single player games, in general, don't do well on Roblox due to the total absence of social interactions which is one of the pillars that made Roblox successful.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
  • I bought the music and a lot of the sound effects used in the Egg Hunt 2017 two days from release as it was a low priority issue. Up until that point, the game was more or less completely silent.
  • A week before release, I wrote almost all NPC dialogues, planned and made the EBR Egg gameplay as it mainly use dialogues to make the players progress.
  • The developer free cam feature (Hotkey: Shift + P) was actually originally made to record the Egg Hunt 2017 trailer but was later on modified and implemented into the Roblox client.
  • The Egg Hunt 2017 event was the first large event that used Roblox's volunteer Quality Assurance group during the development process.
  • The Egg Hunt 2017 event did so well that Roblox extended the event end date by a week.

Bugs[]

  • In The Timeless Desert, there was a glitch that even after trapping the mummy in the fire you still couldn't get the Mummy Egg sometimes. Eventually, it got fixed.
  • There is a rare chance that you can enter a server where you are only in it. The developers stated that the bug is fixed, but for some people, it is still showing.
  • When you are alone in Stratosphere Outpost, there is a possibility that you will be granted access to the Shrine of the Eggs no matter how many eggs are collected.
  • Sometimes the Peep-A-Boo Egg in Northern Antarctica wouldn't spawn, so players would either server-hop or spend hours just to obtain it. Since April 9, the spawn rate for Peep-A-Boo has been increased dramatically, thus making the Peep-A-Boo one of the most common eggs in the entire event.
  • The Tesla Egg used to disappear after one person obtained it. This has been no longer the case.
  • The GUI buttons sometimes don't function properly, only showing the server list and nothing else.
  • If you ride the balloon with other people, you'd look like the only person on the balloon while everyone else stayed stationary in the sky. This is just a visual glitch and on their screen the same thing is happening.
